Simbu as Billa

Sunday 10 August 2008 @ 7:22 am

Silambarasan has expressed his admiration for Ajith on several occasions. His maiden directorial venture ‘Vallavan’ saw Silambarasan play a youth who admires Ajith.

‘Kaalai’ featured him with a few scenes with posters of Ajith.

The actor seems to have gone a step ahead now and will be appearing with the ‘Billa’ look in his forthcoming venture ‘Silambattam’. According to sources, Simbu comes in ‘Billa’ attire in the climax scene with the same background scored used for Ajith.

Anu Vardhan (wife of director Vishnuvardhan), the costume designer of ‘Billa’ made some changes in the same suit that Ajith wore for ‘Billa’, to fit Simbu’s size.

Simbu even utters some dialogues made by Ajith in ‘Billa’ for ‘Silambattam’

Poda Podi - Simbu and Varalakshmi

Actor-Politician dad Sarath Kumar is all supportive of his daughter Varalakshmi’s debut in Kollywood. Even though Sarath Kumar has given his daughter full freedom and believes that she is a mature and intelligent girl who can handle anything on the sets of Poda Podi with Silambarasan, he is still being a typical father and being a protective dad.

If sources are to be believed, Sarath has talked to all his close friends in the industry, to watchout for his daughter and inform him immediately if, she is into any kind of problem. Silambarasan who heard this is said to be spending time only on his laptop keeping himself away from the outside world to avoid problems.

The pooja of the Silambarasan – Varalakshmi starrer is scheduled to be held on August 15th in Toronto. The movie is to be directed by Vigesh siva and the cinematography is by Nirva Sha. The movie will have a title song sung by Silambarasan and Varalakshmi for the music by Dharan of Sivi fame. The lyrics of this song is penned by Vairamuthu.

Vara Lakshmi makes her kollywood debut oppotie Simbu in the movie Thiru Poda Thirumathi Podi – Dandanakka Jodi which is jointly Produced by Gemini Film Circuit and Shanaya Tele films.

Silambattam Final Shoot Songs - More

After a hectic shooting schedule in Pollachi just a few days ago, the Silambattam team is gearing up once again to go back. Sources have it that Silambarasan and his team will go to Pollachi, perhaps this month end, to complete the rest of the talky portion in Silambattam. The team is tipped to camp in Pollachi for about ten days to accomplish this task. With just three songs remaining to be canned, the unit is preparing to go abroad to can the dance sequences. In all probability, the Silambattan team will leave for their trip abroad after returning from the Pollachi shooting.

Silambattam Songs -Rachna, Maurya and 100 girls

A song shot in a grand and aesthetically appealing set which costs a fortune, with a bevy of beauties dancing along, has always been the cynosure of his father T. Rajendar’s films, and it is also so now in his films. Simbu makes sure every film of his has a song with a grand set and eye-popping models. Remember ‘Manmadhan’ of Manmadhan and ‘Loosu Pennae’ of Vallavan, which starred models from Mumbai and abroad?

Keeping in line with this trend, Simbu shot a song for his upcoming Silambattam with Mumbai item girl Rachna Maurya and about 100 models from Mumbai. The song cost approximately Rs. 75 lakhs. Simbu, who has a penchant of introducing some difficult and catchy dance movements with every film he does, has worked on some real and never-seen-before dance moves in this song too.

In Silambattam, Simbu plays a temple priest who turns into a violent man under some compelling circumstances. Sana Khan is his heroine. The shooting will be over by August, after which filming for Poda Podi begins. Sarathkumar’s daughter Varalakshmi debuts in Poda Podi as an actress.

Hurdles for Simbu-Dhanush Starrer

The talks of Silambarasan and Dhanush joining for a movie is creating a stir

in Kollywood. Many wonder whether this is possible.

Silambarasan was immediate to give the nod while it has been silence from

Dhanush’s side still. Industry sources say that Dhanush’s father, Kasthuri

Raja is not keen about this project and has suggested Dhanush to skip the

offer. Now is that the fear of the unknown.

The only way for this project to take off now is that Dhanush must believe in

himself and accept the offer as our Little Superstar did.

Simbu and Dhanush together?

silambarasan

Will this work or will this ever happen that the east and west joining together.

Simbu and Dhanush are the next to come in the lines of MGR - Sivaji, Rajini - Kamal and Ajith - Vijay . A healthy competition have been previaling among the two so far.

Now the hot topic is that there are circulations in kollywood that Prabu Deva has come up with a script for Simbu and Dhanush to star together for a movie and has already got Our Little Superstar’s consent.

Prabu Deva is yet to approach Dhanush and if things materlize both sides then this will be Prabu Deva’s next venture once he completes the Hindi remake of Pokiri.

Sources say the title for the movie would be ‘Agni Natchathiram’but will have no link with the Maniratnam’s one apart from the title.

Working with Simbu is a Joy

“Love of literature runs in the family,” laughs cinematographer Saravanan, who turns director with the Silambarasan starrer Silambattam. Son of well-known yesteryear lyricist Ulundurpettai Shanmugham, Saravanan has been an avid reader even from the age of eight.

Naturally storytelling is the next step. Though he has done about 25 films as a cameraman, direction has been a passion. When he decided to go commercial for his debut venture, he needed a popular hero and Simbu filled the bill.

“My screenplay will make the difference,” says Saravanan. He finds working with Simbu a joy. “He keenly observes, enjoys and appreciates your work that you want to give your best,” he adds.

A resolute Simbu?

Silambarasan is busy with two films in his kitty-‘Silambattam’ and ‘Kettavan’. We all are aware that Silambarasan is pairing up with Sana Khan for this film. But there is more to it! Our reports suggest that there is one more heroine role in the film.

The search for this second heroine is going on in full swing. Starting from ‘Karuppusamy Kuthagaitharar’ fame Meenakshi to Sherin, the director of the film is on a heroine hunt. But seems like the hero of the film Silambarasan is not too happy with the director’s list and wants to import a new face from our neighboring ‘god’s own country’.

Mmm… looks like Silambarasan has developed a fancy for chics from Kerala!

In the meantime, Silambarasan has self-imposed a rule on himself. He has decided to meet the press only after completing ‘Silambattam’ and ‘Kettavan’. The rule does not end there. He has also made up his mind to not attend any cinema functions during this time. The reason - the hero has decided to meet the world only after giving a hit.

Let’s hope Silambarasan hits the bulls-eye this time with 'Silambattam' and 'Kettavan'!

‘Silambattam’ - Burning the midnight oil!

Silambarasan who welcomed his 25th birthday recently is working hard for his next venture titled ‘Silambattam’. The shooting for this film has been taking place in various locations.

Some scenes for Silambarasan’s next film ‘Silambattam’ was shot in a small village called Thirukadaiyur near Kumbakonam district. Since the shooting in Thirukadaiyur is over, the ‘Silambattam’ troop has now moved to Thiruvaiaru which is near Thirukadaiyur for shooting the next part.

A grand set has been erected to depict a ‘thiruvizha’ (meaning ‘fair’ in Tamil) scene and shooting is going on day and night.

Saravanan who is an ace cameraman takes the director’s chair for this flick. This film has Silambarasan and Sana Khan in the lead roles. The film seems to have village and city sequences in equal proportion.

And guessing by the hard work and the effort that is being put in, it sure seems like a success story!
